Saaj

Saaj

Saaj emerged from a need of finding Indian decor that can match the modern aesthetic of our homes. It is also significantly a need for human interaction, to build a community of people who love decor and are appreciative of the physical location of a store where they can come, chat, have a cup of coffee or chai and delight in the lovingly handcrafted and curated decor items. Our intent is to make your visit to us an experience to remember, a memory that brings on a smile, a hygge feeling of camaraderie.

Our bespoke pieces are an attempt to bring modern luster into traditional Indian decor, yet preserving the history and heritage of traditional art. Most of these are made by the tribal and artisan communities who are trying to preserve their art. Buying them is also a step towards preserving our cultural inheritance and identity, fostering our children to imbibe their legacy, their roots.

Our prime objective is to enable the first generation South Asian kids, and all thereafter, to feel comfortable with their heritage and our designs. A fully traditional decor may not resonate with them, making them shy away from everything Indian. They look for a beautiful amalgamation of traditional and modern when buying decor for their homes and we aim to fulfill that space for them.

Slow and sustainable decor is our goal through Saaj. Being eco-conscious in our curation and quality is very important to us. Classic and timeless products can help beat the attack on our ecosystems and we envision that in our lives through Saaj. Buying handcrafted, handmade artifacts can give back a lot to our community of karigars/artisans who suffer in the age of trends and mass productions. Nurturing the arts and crafts of our artisan communities is one way of achieving this vision of Saaj.

House of Saaj is dedicated to curating and showcasing the rich heritage arts and crafts of India, with the aim of seamlessly blending them into a broader cultural narrative.
